Recycling in educational institutions

Recycling in educational institutions

Education is a key component in all that relates to the preservation of environmental values in general and the issue of recycling in particular. Educators have the responsibility to serve as the spearhead in leading and directing.

Recycling is a way of life which must be taught, not only by teaching in kindergarten, school, and the university, but also by setting an example and taking real initiative that educates, encourages, and raises awareness of behavioral and lifestyle patterns of separating materials for recycling.

ELA Recycling Corporation is acting extensively to increase awareness in order to encourage the subject of recycling in Israel, most educational activities take place in the educational institutions.

In recent years the ELA Recycling Corporation leads projects and educational programs to promote the issue in schools and kindergartens. The children recycle, receive the deposit fee, meet collection goals, and win attractive prizes in addition to their recycling achivments. The prizes selected are based on the points accumulated according to the amout of recycling done (such as: sports gear, electronic equipment, activities, workshops). They also receive the "recycling badge" certificate for the most recycling school and kindergarten.
Likewise, a special program was developed in collaboration with Beit Berl College to develop lesson plans about recycling, out of the belief that children and youth are the best agents of change. Over the years it can be seen that these projects and programs bear fruit and every year more and more institutions join the process of recycling and the number of recycled containers from this segment of the market also increases.
